Proceedings IBMM 2008 - Guide for Authors
Publisher
The IBMM 2008 Proceedings will be published as a special (but consecutively numbered) volume of the journal Nuclear Instruments and Methods in Physics Research, Section B: Beam Interactions with Materials and Atoms (NIMB). The format, letter type and lay out will be the same as for the regular issues of the Journal.
Submission
Contributions to the IBMM 2008 Proceedings must exclusively be submitted through the website of the conference, http://www.ibmm2008.org. The submission system will be open between July 14, 2008, and the paper submission deadline of Sept 1, 2008.
In order to ease the refereeing process, only a compact single .pdf file will be accepted for the first upload, which contains the text and all illustrations and figures.
Submission of a manuscript implies that the manuscript is not being considered for publication elsewhere nor has been published elsewhere and that the authors have obtained the necessary authority for publication.
Style and format
Language and layout Manuscripts should be written in good English. They should be typed throughout with double line-spacing and wide margins on numbered, single-column pages.
| Maximum length of the printed paper: |
Invited papers max. 8 printed pages
Contributed papers max. 4 printed pages |
Minimum length The authors should aim for their papers essentially not filling less than 3 pages.
Authors are requested to use one of the formulae below to estimate the length of their paper in print.
Structure Please adhere to the following order of presentation: article title, author(s), affiliations, abstract, PACS codes and keywords, main text, acknowledgements, appendices, references, figure captions, tables, figures.
Corresponding author The name, full postal address, telephone and fax numbers and e-mail address of the corresponding author should be given on the first page.
PACS codes/keywords Please supply one or more relevant PACS classification codes and up to 6 keywords of your own choice for indexing purposes.
References References to other publications should be numbered consecutively within square brackets in the order in which they appear in the manuscript, and listed together at the end of the text, as shown in the following examples:
[1] V.I. Shulga, P. Sigmund, Nucl. Instr. and Meth. B 47 (1990) 236.
[2] H.H. Andersen, H.L. Bay, in: R. Behrisch (Ed.), Sputtering by Ion Bombardment I, Springer, Berlin, Heidelberg, 1977, p. 104.
[3] J.F. Ziegler, J.P. Biersack, U. Littmark, The Stopping and Range of Ions in Solids, Pergamon, New York, 1985.
[4] S.B. Trubin, Investigation of Radiation Gas Evolution from Polyethylene, Dissertation, Sverdlovsk, 1981 (in Russian).
The authors may opt also to give the full titles of papers published in journals. In case, that must be for all journal papers listed.
In case of multiple authorship, all authors should be listed in the references. Only in case of more than ten authors is it acceptable to list the first author 'et al.'
Nomenclature and units Authors are requested to use the SI system for units and nomenclature.
Comment: Subunits like mm, GW etc. are of course allowed, as is cm. A few non-SI units like eV and Å are so engrained that use may continue. Prefixes and abbreviations must be correct, i.e. keV, not KeV, cm, not cms, mg, not mkg, etc. Finally dose may only be used where appropriate i.e. for absorbed (deposited) energy density. Otherwise fluence should be used. Note that the dimension of dose is energy/mass (J/kg or Gray, Gr) while the dimension of fluence is particles/area (most often cm-2).
References to computer simulation programs References to computer simulation programs (SRIM, GUPIX, GEANT…) must contain the version number for the program used.
References to previous IBMM proceedings Authors are requested to give proper reference to relevant papers in previous IBMM proceedings to ensure the coherence of the conference.
Refereeing
The manuscripts will be evaluated according to the regular standards of the journal. The corresponding author of each manuscript will be notified about the recommendations of the referees. In case of non-rejected papers, the corresponding authors may be asked for revisions and a fast re-submission according to the above scheme.
The corresponding authors will be notified about final acceptance or rejection of their respective papers.
Final Upload
The corresponding authors of accepted manuscripts will be asked for a final upload according to the requirements of the publisher. The final version is to be uploaded via the conference website, http://www.ibmm2008.org, as a .zip file composed from one file for the text (including tables) and one file for each figure.
Text file For the text file, the following formats are accepted: Word, WordPerfect, RTF, LaTeX2e, Postscript, or PDF.
Figures The figures shall be in TIFF, EPS or PDF format. MS Office files (Word, Powerpoint, Excel) are also accepted, provided they meet certain conditions. The colour images shall be provided in RGB colorspace. For more information, see http://www.elsevier.com/artworkinstructions.
Filenames Please use the filename "fign.fmt" for each figure, where n denotes the number of the figure, and fmt its format. Example: "fig1.tif" for Figure 1 in TIFF format.
Colour figures If you submit usable colour figures with your accepted article, then Elsevier will ensure that these figures will appear in colour on the web (e.g., ScienceDirect and other sites) at no additional charge, even if these illustrations are not reproduced in colour in the printed version.
If you should not opt for colour in print, please submit usable black and white prints corresponding to all the colour illustrations, because of technical complications which can arise by converting colour figures to 'grey scale' for the printed version.
Colour figures in the printed version If you wish colour figures to appear in the printed version, the special cost for reproduction is € 318.00 per colour page (excluding VAT), plus a share in additional 318 € which the publisher requires if any colour page will appear in the proceedings. These costs will have to be borne by the Author(s) of a contribution containing one or more coloured pages, who will jointly receive 100 complimentary offprints of the contribution. The corresponding author will receive information by the publisher regarding the costs of colour reproduction in print after receipt of the accepted article.
Publishing Procedure
Page proofs Page proofs are sent out by the Publisher to the Author in order to check that no undetected errors have arisen in the typesetting or file conversion process. Only typesetting errors may be corrected in the proofs. No changes in, or additions to, the accepted paper will be accepted.
Copyright transfer In the course of the production process the authors will be asked to transfer the copyright of the article to the publisher. This transfer will ensure the widest possible dissemination of information.
No page charges Publishing in Nuclear Instruments and Methods in Physics Research - Section B is free.
