4. Excursion to Pillnitz
  Pillnitz PalaceThursday, September 4, 2008 1.30 p.m. – 6.00 p.m.
On this tour you will see the most beautiful sides of Dresden: The historical city, the castles located beautifully on the hillside of the Elbe, the Blue Wonder Bridge and Pillnitz.

We start at 2 p.m. by boat from the Terrassenufer quayside in Dresden (departure time). You will have a magnificent view of the historic city centre before three romantic castles come into view. The impressive Elbe palaces Albrechtsberg, Lingner and Eckberg with their beautiful gardens are embedded in vineyards above the River Elbe.

Next highlight is the Blue Wonder bridge. The suspension bridge was considered a technical wonder at that time and owes its name »Blue Wonder« to its light blue paint. We reach Pillnitz Palace with its extensive park, the summer residence of Saxon kings and electors and one of the finest of Saxony`s castles and gardens. Guides will lead you through the park which is deserving of particular attention, as it combines the strict forms of the baroque period with those of an English landscape garden. Alongside many rare trees the over 200-year-old Japanese camellia is a particular magnet for visitors.

A bus will bring you back to Dresden, at this trip a guide will give you more details to Dresden and its surroundings before we stop at the hotels we have booked for you.
